The former Ethiopian Water Technology Education Center (EWTEC) was established on Oct. 15, 1997, as a training center based on the technical assistance agreement signed by the current Ethiopian Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Energy and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). During the project period over 3500 Ethiopians including neighboring countries professionals attended short-term training programs. The current Ethiopian Water Technology Institute (EWTI) was recognized as a major human resource development organization in Ethiopia by the Federal and regional governments, various stakeholders, and other donors. Because of this, the Ethiopian Water Technology Institute Established by the Council of Ministers Regulation No. 293/2013 as one of the very essential institutes during the first GTP period in August 2013. The institute gives practical capacity-building training and selected technology transfer activities in the water sector throughout the country. These activities focus on capacitating the effort of instructors and professionals, preparing and designing appropriate training materials, assessment tools and building special laboratory which are adding values on the sector. In conclusion, I would like to call upon the stakeholders, universities, TVET colleges, foreign donors, the entire professionals and civil servants in the institute and the public to mobilize themselves in a more organized manner than ever before in order to ensure the sustainability of our growth and ability to be center of excellence on the water sector.
I thank you!
